Watson Wood Fuel - Facts

Most wood burning stoves will under perform unless you put in good quality wood fuel.

Problems include: Blacking, Smoking, Low heat output and Inefficient performance. This leads to increased costs.

Your wood fuel needs to be dry and seasoned properly.
We guarantee that all our wood is well seasoned and ready to burn efficiently.

Hardwood

• Ash is thought by many to be the best burning wood providing plenty of heat ...and also burns green.

• Beech is good when it has been well seasoned, it is also better when part seasoned for slow burning.

• Birch provides good heat and a bright flame but burns quickly.

• Oak is also considerd to be a superior fuel. Very old dry seasoned oak is excellent, burning slowly with a good heat.

Softwood

• Softwood is a good firewood if you are looking for a fire that is very easy to start.

• Due to the high pitch content, most softwoods (conifers: pine, fir, cedar, etc.) tend to pop and "crackle".

• Softwoods burn at a lower temperature than hardwoods. This means that more unburned materials (in the form of smoke) go up the chimney and stick to the sides of it.

• Mix with hardwood to keep a fire going if the hardwoods aren't fully seasoned.
